Hard Drive Update Disk for "G3" CNC’s (pre-2009)

The OmniTurn Factory Update Disk allows you to update software for any "G3" OmniTurn CNC. Latest software includes support for current VGA (LCD monitor) or older monochrome (Amber monitor) displays. Not for latest "G4" CNC or for early CNC without hard drive. (Go back to Software Downloads page and re-select). NOTE: This is an UPDATE disk, not a SETUP disk. To setup a new hard drive go here and select appropriate SETUP option.

To make update floppy disk for OmniTurn CNC hard drive:

  1. Download vgaupd.exe to your desk-top computer (must have floppy drive capability).
  2. Open vgaupd.exe (double-click on it, or right-click on it then click OPEN): A dialog box will open, explaining that OmniTurn Hard Drive Update Disk will be created; click OK
  3. A second box will appear, reminding you to insert floppy in drive A: of your desktop computer
  4. Put a floppy disk into drive A: of your desktop computer, then click OK to create Hard Drive Update Disk for OmniTurn CNC.

To update the hard drive on your OmniTurn using floppy disk:

  1. Put the update disk you created (steps 1-4 above) in drive A:of your OmniTurn
  2. Power up your OmniTurn
  3. At "Do you want to backup your program files?" prompt press Ctrl-C (Press and hold Ctrl key, then press C key)
  4. At "Halt batch process?" prompt, press Y to drop to DOS
  5. At C:\OMNITURN> prompt, type A: then press enter
  6. At A:> prompt
    If you have standard 5hp inverter drive: type 5HP then press Enter
    If you have Indramat C-Axis drive: type INDR then press Enter
    If you have Baumuller C-Axis drive: type BAUM then press Enter
    If you have Yaskawa C-Axis drive: type ACS then press Enter
  7. You will be prompted to select your monitor type: (1) for Monochrome (2) for VGA
    After selecting your monitor type, new files will be copied to your hard drive
    When the process is complete, set your OmniTurn off, then on to reboot.

To write update disk to thumb drive in USB Floppy Emulator:

NOTE: If you purchased your Floppy Emulator from OmniTurn after September, 2019, the update software is installed on the thumb drive that came with your emulator. Skip to Update the Hard Drive below

  1. Download 14-vgaupd.zip to your desk-top computer. Extract file to "Images" folder on Desktop. Create new folder if necessary.
  2. Run USB Floppy Manager. (If not installed, Download and install this software).
  3. Write the extracted 14-vgaupd.img file to disk 014 of the thumb drive. (Complete instructions here.)
  4. Set OmniTurn power off.

To update the hard drive on your OmniTurn from USB Emulator:

  1. Set OmniTurn power on.
  2. Set floppy emulator display to 014
  3. At "Do you want to backup your program files?" prompt press Ctrl-C (Press and hold Ctrl key, then press C key)
  4. At "Halt batch process?" prompt, press Y to drop to DOS
  5. At C:\OMNITURN> prompt, type A: then press enter
  6. At A:> prompt
    If you have standard 5hp inverter drive: type 5HP then press Enter
